Emerald Prime & Store Sale Market Report – 17/09/2026
The Emerald combined cattle sale saw a significantly larger offering this week, with 3,217 head yarded. Cattle were drawn from all local regions, with the inclusion of larger lines from the Nebo and Jericho districts. Quality was consistent across the yarding, with some very good offerings of local prime cattle, along with quality lines of feeder and weaner cattle. The usual panel of meatworks buyers was present, with rates easing across most descriptions, in line with trends experienced at other selling centres this week. Bullocks in good supply sold consistently selling in the 430–440c/kg range, while a large line of heavy feeder steers fall into this weight bracket topped at 506.2c/kg. Heavy local cows reached an isolated top of 370.2c/kg to average 330c/kg. Heavy bulls saw a slight improvement this week, topping at 400c/kg and averaging 367c/kg. The larger yarding also attracted increased numbers of quality store cattle, along with a broader buying panel, particularly across all classes of steers. Feeder steers topped at 516.2c/kg to average 492c/kg, while weaner steers reached a top of 559.2c/kg to average 445c/kg. Feeder heifers sold to 458.2c/kg and averaged 396c/kg, while a large offering of weaner heifers reached an isolated top of 414.2c/kg to average 362c/kg.
Sale Highlights
Alan & Julie Hay “ Eka” & “Blairgowrie” Jericho – Sold a large draft of Simmental/Braford/Santa x weaner steers topping the sale at 559.2c/kg. The lead pen of Simmental x steers weighed 303 kgs making 559.2c/kg to return $1,698/head. They also sold Brahman x cows weighing 588 kgs to make 358.2c/kg to return $2,106/head.
Chasford Grazing “Chasford” Moranbah – Sold Droughtmaster cows topping at 364.2c/kg weighing 790 kgs to return $2,877/head.
Jason & Joanne Wolff “Wadeleigh” Emerald – Sold Santa cows weighing 640 kgs which made 357.2c/kg to return $2,286/head.
