Emerald Prime & Store Sale Market Report – 10/09/2026
The Emerald Combined Agents saw a larger yarding of 2,336 head come to hand for today’s prime & store sale. Cattle were drawn from all local and surrounding areas, along with lines from Charters Towers and Jericho. All the usual meatworks buyers were in attendance & were joined by an additional southern processor, with a very strong market experienced across all categories. The prime section saw a strong offering of well-finished local cattle come to hand, with quality well represented. Heavy steers to process were well supplied, with several quality grain and crop-assisted consignments, a large portion of which were EU accredited. These steers sold to a top of 474c/kg to average 444.9c/kg. A number of heavy feeder steers in excess of 500kg also fell into this category, with the lead of these reaching 486.2c/kg. Good heavy local cows sold to a top of 378.2c/kg to average 366.5c/kg, whilst heavy prime heifers to process sold to a top of 420c/kg. Heavy meatworks bulls sold to a top of 400c/kg to average 361c/kg. A few additional store buyers were once again active this week in response to another larger yarding, helping drive competition. Feeder steers in supply topped at 492.2c/kg for a genuine flatback steer, lightweight weaner steers reached 612.2c/kg, while the weaner steers carrying more weight generally sold from 550c/kg to 570c/kg, to average 520c/kg. Feeder heifers sold to a top of 476c/kg, with content evident through a number of the consignments. Weaner heifers in good supply sold to a top of 446 to average 371c/kg.
