Emerald Prime & Store Sale Market Report – 01/10/2026
The Emerald combined cattle sale today saw 1835 head of mixed quality cattle penned. Cattle were drawn from all local regions with the inclusion of lines from Bowen, Dingo & Nebo districts. Most descriptions are really starting to show signs of the deteriorating season, although the better finished local prime cattle are still holding on and attracting strong competition from the processors. All the usual meatworks buyers were in attendance with most prime cattle descriptions holding firm to a fraction dearer in the cows, whilst bullocks are cheaper on average due to the mixed quality and type on offer. Bullocks over 500 kgs reached 482.2c/kg which were a pen of heavy feeder steers selling to a feedlot buyer, with most prime bullocks selling between 420-440c/kg. Heavy local cows topped at 373.2c/kg to average 362c/kg, whilst heavy prime heifers mostly sold between 400-420c/kg. As mentioned, the store cattle section was mixed in quality and type, although some good quality lines of crossbred cattle were present and met healthy rates. Feeder steers topped at 506.2c/kg to average 442c/kg, whilst weaner steers reached an isolated top of 522.2c/kg for some EU accredited steers, with most weaner steers selling in the mid to late $4 range. Feeder heifers reached an isolated top of 468.2c/kg to average around the $4/kg mark, whilst a limited and very mixed quality offering of weaner heifers topped at 356.2c/kg to average 309c/kg.
