The 2025 Beef Expo yarded a total of 2,250 head. The team at Hoch & Wilkinson would like to extend their appreciation to all vendors for presenting an exceptional line-up of cattle at this year’s event. The overall quality was outstanding, with the yarding providing an excellent representation of what the region has to offer. Market demand was strong, and prices reflected the high standard of cattle presented. Cattle were consigned from local and surrounding districts, with the inclusion of a large consignment of feeders making the trip in from Aramac. This year’s sale once again attracted a large buying panel, with buyers operating in a considerable dearer market across all categories.
The grain-fed section saw 100-day steers reach a top of 487 c/kg, with steers in this category all in excess of 670 kg. 100-day heifers sold to a top of 484 c/kg for a well-presented pen of Simmental-cross heifers. The grass-fed section presented a quality line up of cattle reflective of an excellent season across Central Queensland. The Strong seasonal conditions contributed to well-finished cattle displaying good weight and condition across all categories. Grass Bullocks sold to a top of 470 c/kg with majority of the cattle in this category selling from 440 to 460c/kg. Heavy Cows over 520 kg reached a top of 409c/kg for a pen of high yielding Charolais cross cows to average 383 c/kg. Cows under 520 kg sold to a top of 385c/kg to average 357c/kg. Feeder steers made up a large portion of the yarding, with approximately 400 head penned. The lead pen sold to a top of 478 c/kg, averaging 447 c/kg. Demand was strong from both local and southern feedlot buyers. Feeder heifers reached a top of 454 c/kg, with the majority selling between 410 and 440 c/kg.
Trade weight steers come under strong demand a run of Charolais cross steers toped this category at 506c/kg. Weaner steers performed exceptionally well, topping out at 522 c/kg and averaging 509 c/kg.
Weaner heifers also attracted strong interest from local restockers and traders, selling to a top of 430 c/kg. with the majority selling above 400 c/kg.
Highlights
Mac & Gayle Shann took out the Grand Champion Exhibit, Champion Pen of grain fed and Champion of Prime Cattle with their Droughtmaster/Charolais X 100 Day Grain Fed heifers weighing 683kgs to make 465c/kg to return $3175.
Champion Pen of Grass or Crop Fed went to Tony & Louise Prentice JMAR Santa Gertrudis, with their heifers weighing 573kgs to make 448c/kg to make $2569.
The Murphy Family “Tay Glen” Dysart won the Crop/Grain Assist Jap Bullock Class with a pen off Charbray Steers weighing 719kgs to return $3345.
Pen of Grass Fed Jap Bullocks was won by the Anderson Family “Narrien” Clermont with their Angus X Steers 732kgs to make 468c/kg to realise $3425.
Champion Pen of Stores and Pen of Feeder steers went to Darren Gaw “Ronlee” Clermont with his pen of Simmental X Steers 422kgs to make 478c/kg to return $2018.
The Weaner steer class was taken out by CLS Rural “Kilcummin” with a pen of EU Droughtmaster X Steers weighing 303kgs for 500c/kg to make $1517.
